Belluno, the capital of the Dolomites, and its story teller
Belluno is the local capital for the Dolomites region.
It is here that Dino Buzzati Traverso (1906-1972) - an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for the Corriere della Sera daily newspaper - was born. His worldwide fame is mostly due to his novel Il deserto dei Tartari, translated into English as The Tartar Steppe. The mountains around Belluno were among his most important sources of inspiration.
