Laki Municipality – the magic of the mountain waters

Situated in the Western Rhodopes it has a total area of 260 02 ha. Its administrative centre, Laki is at a distance of 210 km from Sofia, 54 km from Plovdiv, 36 km from Assenovgrad and 88 km from Smolyan. Landscape variety – beautifully raised karst forms, four rivers, three waterfalls, perennial forests and lush meadows.

Rock bridge “Shapran dupka” and a waterfall "Gjumbjurtiata", are situated along Belishka river. The waterfall "Gjumbjurtiata" stands at 5 m. The waterfall "Sveti douh" is situated on 1400 m altitude, along Manastirska river, and its water falls from the height of 15 m. The waterfall "Slivodolsko padalo" is the highest waterfall in the Rhodopes. It stands near to Bachkovski monastery.

People who enjoy remarkable places have to visit the reserve “Tchervena stena” which covers an area of 3029 hа. There exist unique rocky formations, lakes, springs, waterfalls and a cave with fascinating stone forms.

The church "St Troitsa" which is located in the village of Yugovo is a cultural monument with a local significance, and is remarkable for its architecture and history. Built in 1842, it is a three aisles pseudo-basilica with an exterior gallery in front of the west wall. It has exquisite stone church tower, which ends with a bulbous dome. In the interior there are preserved wall icons, pained in the beginning of the 70s of the XIX century. The iconostasis has wood carving and painted doors, with precious icons of 1946 and 1851.
