Pamporovo

A snow-white cover, majestic pines, sunny mood, excellent opportunities for ski and snowboard in the winter, and for a complete rest in the summer – this is only part of the charm of the biggest winter resort in Bulgaria, called the Rhodopean “pearl”.

Pamporovo is the biggest ski resort in Bulgaria, and the most southern in Europe. It is located 260 km away from the capital Sofia, 85 km southern from Plovdiv, and 15 km off Smolyan. The altitude of the resort is 1650 m, and it is situated in the foot of peak Snezhanka (1926 m). Many ski tracks, surrounded with century-old pines, lead their way down the peak which imparts the resort unique charm. The total length of the tracks is 18 km.

Only a day along the tracks of Pamporovo is enough to give you a wonderful suntan. The resort is deservedly famous as one of the sunniest winter resorts in Bulgaria - the sunny days of the year are more than 240. The climate is mild with strong Mediterranean influence. The average annual temperature is 8,5°С, and the thickness of the snow cover is 140–150 cm. Ski and snowboard can be ridden from the end of November until the end of April. The difficulty of the ski tracks is different so, regardless of your skiing level, the ride along them would be an unforgettable pleasure. If you are a beginner, highly-skilled ski-teachers would help you with the preparation.
In the summer Pamporovo attracts tourists with its wonderful nature, crystal clear air, sunny and fresh days. Some of the hotels offer excellent programmes for full recreation and prophylaxis in rehabilitation and medical centres. Swimming pools, bowling, tennis courts, a pitch for archery, high-mountain cycling are part of the sport entertainments which the resort offers.
