Sappada. Architectures amongst Dolomites
The upper Piave river valley stands at the north end of the Veneto region and the Belluno province. Beloved by mountain and outdoor sport lovers, the area reports to the Sappada-Plodn municipality, one of the five germanophonic communites along the Italian-Austrian border and with substantial cultural and linguistic autonomy.
Since time immemorial, houses here have always been built in wood, often under the very typical Blockbau technique. Some of these dwellings - and some mills as well - have been preserved and restored; Casa Puicher can even be visited, as a museum of rural agricultural life.
