Dino Buzzati Traverso (Belluno, 1906-1972) was an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for Corriere della Sera. His worldwide fame is mostly due to his novel Il deserto dei Tartari, translated into English as The Tartar Steppe. The mountains around Belluno were among his most important sources of inspiration.
In the countryside close to Belluno, at San Pellegrino, this villa is considered by scholars as the one and only 19th-century residence in the area where architecture and painting perfectly twine. Villa Buzzati is not a traditional Venetian villa. It could rather be defined as a Romantic country residence. It has long belonged to the family of the world-renowned Bellunese writer, Dino Buzzati, so it comes as no surprise that culture events are regularly held here every summer.
